Globe Telecom Philippines

History.
Back in 1928, with the passing of Act No. 3495, Robert dollar company franchised their long-distance texting service in the Philippines. In 1934, Act No. 4150 would subsequently allow them for the privileges of franchise transfer to the local, soon to be established in the country on early 1935.

Globe Wireless Limited would rebrand itself to Globe-Mackay Cable plus the Radio Corporation, or Globe-Mackay for short. In 1965, the Congress would pass Republic Act No. 4630, allowing the franchise to operate its communication systems internationally. Only in 1980 would the Globe-Mackay enact a new franchise, granted by Batas Pambansa 95.

1974, Globe-Mackay sold 60% majority of their shares to Ayala Corporation for majority ownership, making the local conglomerate the majority owner of the company. Within next year, shares are offered to be public.

A merger with a domestic telecommunication pioneer, Clavecilla Radio Corporation ensued in 1992, to form GMCR Incorporated. The resulting merger allows GMCR to provide both domestic and international telecommunications service for their customer base. GMCR Would once again rename themselves to the current Globe Telecom Incorporated.

A new foreign partnership is welcomed in 1993, with the addition of Singapore’s STI (Singapore telecom, Inc.), the subsidiary of one of the leading telecommunication leaders in Singapore, Singtel (Singapore Telecommunication Limited). Memorandum of Understanding between Ayala Corporation and STI is then established from the partnership.

Another wholly owned subsidiary after would be acquired in June 2001, Islacom (Communications Company, Inc.). 2003, The National Telecommunications-Commission (NTC) would proceed to grant Globe’s application to transfers their landline business clients and assets to Islacom, in order to fully integrate the fixed line service under Islacom. Islacom later renamed to Innovate Communication, Inc.

The next wholly owned subsidiary in their partnerships, G-Exchange, Inc (GXI). This 2004 investment would handle remittance and payment service, using Globe’s network as the transport channel. The service operates commercially that same year on October.
Late into November, another partnership would be made with seven other major Asia-Pacific mobile operators (JV Partners) to sign the JV agreement, forming the Bridge Alliance. The alliance aims to build on seamless connectivity service for all the clients roaming on the partner’s networks. The main commercial vehicle of the JV partners would be Bridge-Mobile Pte. Limited (BMPL), a Singapore company. Regional and common mobile service infrastructure platform are established for every subscriber. Thus allows the combined power of 250 million clients (from Thailand, India, South Korea, Philippines, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia and Indonesia) under the partnership to benefit. Globe has acquired many partnerships with organizations worldwide internationally.

Innovate Communications, Inc. was rewarded in 2005 by the NTC to expand their fixed line service to nationwide, thus expanding the network coverage and operating a LEC service. December that same year, NTC would allow Globe to upgrade into the 3G business, thus expanding their cellular of the mobile-telephone system (CMTS) network.

Mid 2008, clients of Touch mobile prepaid service were to be transferred to Globe from Innovate Communications, Inc. Globe now operated all the wireless prepaid services on the network, all approved by the NTC. In furthering their growth into the relatively new mobile data sector, Globe would have owned full ownership of Entertainment-Gateway Group (EGG), one of the leaders in Philippines mobile content provider. EGG is responsible for the development and its subsequent creation of wireless services and products that are accessible through most communication devices. Value added product and the internet services, with IT and technical services are also provided, including software development. EGG proceed for registration under DOTC as content provider. Mid 2014, EGG would officially change their name to Yondu, Inc. (Yondu).
Late 2008, Ayala Corporation and BIP signed the memorandum of agreement to allow the joint venture into providing service to the low income and rural clients.
November 2008, GTI Business-Holdings, Inc. (GTIBH) is formed as the primary investment company for Globe. 2012 would see the launch of Kickstart Venture, Inc. again by Globe to help support the growing and dynamic community of domestic technopreneurs. The firm aims to provide technopreneurs the efficient and technological environment to have these aspiring partners to start a business.

ABS-CBN Convergence, Inc. (ABS-C) announce its very own mobile brand in 2013, aptly named ABS-CBNmobile, with the network sharing agreement made with Globe. Globe would provide the necessary network coverage and capacity on the nationwide level. The mobile brand launch later that year in November.

October 2013, Glober and Bayantel’s joint Amended Rehabilitation Plan would receive the Court’s approval. BayanTel’s debt would be bought over by Globe as a 38% interest. Under the agreement, a portion of the debt is converted to BayanTel’s common share, bringing Globe’s stake in the company to the majority 56%. However, a temporary restraining order by a Court of Appeals is issued to stop NTC from allowing Globe to fully take over BayanTel.

Azalea-Technology, Inc. and SCS Computers Systems would sign an agreement on 2014 to acquire the entirety stake for Asticom. Known for their IT service and system integrator technology for both the local and international market, it becomes a majority SCS computer system, with full owned subsidiary for Ayala Corporations.

June 2015, Globe partnered with Global Capital-Venture Holdings Inc. for a wholly subsidiary, organized under domestic law, with the focus on expanding into non-core ventures.
